Work Package 1: The COEURE Coordination Action aims at evaluating European research in economics from the perspective of its contribution to key EU economic policy issues. In view of this objective, eleven economic research areas have been selected for analysis.

Population, migration, aging and health:  Profs. Dustmann, Facchini and Signorotto (Member of Executive Committee for this area of expertise: Barbara Chizzolini)
Inequality and Welfare: Prof. Trannoy (Executive Comm: Frode Steen)
Human capital and education: Prof. Burgess (Exec. Comm: Wolfgang Leininger)
Labour markets: Prof. Dolado (Exec. Comm: Ramon Marimon)
R&D, innovation and growth: Prof. Aghion (Exec. Comm: Estelle Cantillon).
Competition and regulation in markets for goods and services: Prof. Vettas (Exec. Comm: Frode Steen)
Financial markets: Profs. Beck, Carletti and Goldstein (Exec. Comm: Barbara Chizzolini)
Energy, environment and sustainability: Profs. Ekins and Watson (Exec. Comm: Laszlo Matyas)
Fiscal and monetary policy: Prof. Corsetti (Exec. Comm: Ramon Marimon)
Cities, regional development and transport: Profs. Proost and Thisse (Exec. Comm: Wolfgang Leininger)

In addition, there is a twelfth topic, “data and methods”, which cuts across areas and policy issues and covers current developments in data and research methods in economics.
